Residents United for P
lanning and Action — RUPA
RUPA is a dynamic, action-oriented organization with the sole purpose of promoting and protecting the welfare of St. Simons Island, Georgia. RUPA provides
a rallying point around which individual residents can collectively use group strength to accomplish needed objectives.

Every member of RUPA is part of a Grassroots organization. It is the primary strength of RUPA and is its "heart and soul." Members of RUPA present
a strong voice in addressing issues of importance to St. Simons Island. It is a voice heard by decision-makers and government entities that carries weight in their decision process.
The principle objectives of RUPA are:
To promote responsible local government, To protect the natural environment of the Island, To promote effective community planning and responsible Island development.

Founded in 1994, RUPA is a broad-based organization under which more than 400 Island residents have joined together to provide a strong voice on issues that affect the Island,
and to work toward the betterment of the Island community. The Grassroots organization provides communication with members, and organizes activities to support action plans being
carried out by RUPA.
RUPA operates an email and voice telephone network for communicating information and "Alerts" to members. A web site is maintained to provide
information on current RUPA activities, and for use by members to provide feedback on issues and operations. Depending upon specific circumstances, Grassroots
members are called upon to become familiar with the issue being addressed, to write letters and emails, to sign petitions, to attend meetings and demonstrations, or to
telephone elected officials in support of the action plan.
